Harmonic Resonance Meditation

A soothing harmonic drone meditation played in the interval of the Major Fifth

Harmonic Resonance Meditation is deep yet gentle, more “pull than push”. It includes a constant beautifully rich drone in the Major Fifth Interval and is designed to facilitate deep states of meditation and contemplation. This can be used as a primary meditation tool or as an alternate with the Profound Meditation Program.

…creates a very tangible sense of communion and prayer, relaxing the “self”
Strong feeling of life energy and being centered.  ~ Georg Boch

The Story of the Development of Harmonic Resonance Meditation  from the creator, Eric Thompson

I have become aware of how musical drones in particular, when done well, can be effective accompaniments for going deeper and deeper in meditation, partially because your mind doesn’t get caught up in guessing where the song is going to go next. It’s just a steady drone that allows you to keep going deeper, and deeper, and deeper.

I have some specific new brainwave entrainment techniques, that I wanted to add to the drone to make the meditation deeper, and one of them is a new form of brainwave entrainment we’re calling “waveform modulation”. That’s where, essentially, you get in to the actual soundtrack–the music itself.

So much of the brainwave entrainment technology out there tends to be either music or a nature soundtrack pasted over binaural beats. Occasionally you’ll find a few who take the soundtrack and they will create isochronic beats in the soundtrack itself, but most of the time, the brainwave entrainment technology that’s used is a fairly cut-and-paste, pretty simple type of approach that, while it can be effective, I believe it’s ability to elicit these deeper states is very limited.

What we did with this is we went into the soundtrack itself, and we changed the waveforms of the actual music itself in such a way that some of them are modulated in sync with specific brainwave patterns. I added this component in addition to our normal, what we’re calling now, triple pulse binaural signals which are, as far as I know, unique to us in some of the rhythmic panning that we do. The idea behind this was to create a very simple meditation soundtrack that allows the mind to really start to get lost in it.

Also, what we did differently with this one here is, normally we’ll create a ramp where track one will start in beta and it will ramp down to theta or delta and then the succeeding tracks after that will stay down in that brainwave pattern or go a little bit deeper. With this, I didn’t want to use any ramps because, as I’ll explain a little bit more here, I wanted there to be a certain versatility to the way people can use the tracks unlike anything else we’ve put out before. How to Use

Download the iAwake App

First, download the FREE iAwake App, login with your email and all your tracks will be right there. You can stream them, but we’d advise downloading them (from within the app) to ensure an interruption-free experience, and to be able to listen offline.

No Ramping

Track one is just pure alpha. There’s no ramp from beta down to alpha. It’s just pure alpha. Generally, it’s easier for the brain while it’s in beta to lock in to alpha if the entrainment’s really good. That’s usually the first track that we tell people to listen to.

Then track two is just pure theta. Again, if you’re locked in to alpha pretty well, and then you listen to track two, theta – it has no ramp, it’s just pure theta. It’s fairly easy for the brain to lock in to that theta because it’s already in the alpha. Likewise with delta and then epsilon – track four.

I wanted to be able to have a setup that will allow us to do a lot of different things. When I first tried this out I said, “I just want to go for a marathon session, or a mini-marathon,” and that went for two hours.

I listened to track one: alpha; track two: theta; then track three: delta, twice; then track four: epsilon, repeated twice; and then track two: theta, repeated twice, to go back up into that theta, which is a kind of a dreamy state. When you’re down in delta and epsilon, you’re down the deep unconscious, and the theta allows you to bring more of that up into the subconscious…

I have been listening to various brain entrainment programs since the 1980s. When PMP came out, I started using it daily. For me, the HRM is like the next evolutionary step from PMP. It provides a calmer, more peaceful experience. While using HRM, I was able to quickly access some of the deepest and most profound meditative states that I’ve ever experienced. An hour of HRM flies by so quickly that I find myself craving longer sessions and frequently repeat the delta and epsilon sessions for extra immersion. At the same time, on busy days a quick alpha or theta experience is sufficient for feeling like I had a good meditative experience for the day.  ~ Michael Halbfish

While meditating progressively with Harmonic Resonance Meditation from Alpha up to Epsilon for an hour there was marked increase in Heart Coherence as measured by HeartMath emWave 2. During a one hour meditation while listening from Alpha to Epsilon the percentage of High Coherence progressed from Alpha-7%, Theta-31%, Delta-62% and Epsilon-92%.
